The monitor used by the Game Boy is a simple type LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), which can only display 4 different colors or gray scales. This is an advantage and a disadvantage for the Game Boy. The good thing is that it consumes half of the batteries as much as other color handheld systems like the Atari Lynx and Sega Game Gear. the other great things that have further enhanced with Pocket GB is size. you can actually put it in your pocket!
Try putting a Game Gear in your pocket if you can! The two drawbacks of the screen LCD is that it seems a bit bored in only 4 different shades of gray and can also be difficult to find a good projection on the screen. You have to have a light source very strong close. This has been enhanced with the new Pocket GB, so not really a problem.
