IPhone OS 3.0: Just how advanced is "advanced"?
Do not mess with a good thing. And the iPhone is definitely a good thing. The Most iPhone users will tell you they could not imagine life without it, but how much better can it get? How could Apple possibly put 100 other software functions in the already amazing iPhone SDK included in 2.2.1. Well, this is what Apple developers are telling us to be ready for. . . and leaves us begging the question, "How advanced is" advanced "in terms of new iPhone software?
As always, Apple has revealed enough about the new software that astonish us, but considering how well it will be. Sometimes Apple "opens the curtain" to reveal something really new and spectacular, and, Sometimes all the hype results in so-so. Where OS 3.0 fall in this spectrum?
Acclaimed to be the mobile platform of the "most advanced the world, "the anticipation of OS 3.0 is certainly raise expectations. Among the most touted of the 100 new features include the ability to send files to through MMS, including contacts, pictures and audio files, the ability to search the iPhone, cut, copy and past functions, and (drum roll …) you can use the landscape to read and write emails and text messages.
Wait a minute. These are all great things, and something that will cause the iPhone to only one step closer to being a replacement for our laptops, but this really is a spectacular reveal? Either Apple is the best way to save for the actual launch of OS 3.0, or this is really it. In a sense, it seems that these are things which should have been included in previous versions. This is the image in my head: One geek bespeckled converted to another and says, "Hey, Larry was not supposed to do the copy and paste programming? Oh shit, I guess we'll have to get that next time." And for the average user, which leads to the technology of the iPhone of course, these new features seem a bit like an afterthought.
Perhaps people who will be most happy are the developers. The new software includes 1,000 new API for them, allowing them to build applications that impresses the world. After Yet they are what make the applications that make the iPhone what it is. Apple says the new SDK will allow developers to apply for purchases of content, games, subscriptions, etc. and to create applications that allow peer-to-peer through Blue tooth connection. Push Notification Service will also provide alerts.
Aha, now we are coming to it. Apple has focused on the new features that allow applications to be even better, and after all, is not that what we are most concerned all anyway? Best iPhone Applications = far better than most of us are concerned. Then, What does the new iPhone software mean? I personally do not think we'll be disappointed, but there is only a very important question to ask: Is not it much better than the new iPhone is, but how big will the new applications that once developers get their hands on OS 3.0?
